Colour: Pale straw with green hues.Bouquet: Aromas of fresh baked almond croissants, wet stone, white nectarines and jasmine. Quintessential Maragert River characters from pristine wild fermented fruit and judicious use of French oak.Palate: A very generous palate showing juicy peaches, nectarines, Danish pastry and a touch of struck match. Fruit flavors marry alongside a backbone of acidity giving minerality, freshness and underlying saline notes. Texture and creaminess give weight from regular battonage to round out the palate. A wine with balance and poise that will evolve with time in the bottle.

Awards and Reviews:

Continues the generous style that has been part of the Cape Grace DNA. It's wild fermented and gets about 40% new oak which this season needed to strike the right balance. Nectarine and edgier cumquat emerge over aromas of quince paste and creme brûlée on the nose. The palate is layered and textured with great depth of flavour that carries to a very long finish.

94/100 Ray Jordan 2024 Wine Review.

Vinification: The grapes were picked early in the morning and pressed immediately. The heart of the free run juice filled new barrels direct from the press. The remaining juice was pressed to tank and sent to barrel immediately after pressing with full solids. Wild fermentation commenced after 6 days and the fermentation took 2 weeks. Malolactic fermentation was carried out on 30% of the barrels.  Barrels were stirred weekly for 2 months then monthly in 40% new French with the balance 1 and 2 year old oak.  No finning filtered then bottled on the 14 November 2022.

Vintage 2022 Rating 9/10: After coming off a very wet winter above average for the first time in many years this pushed the bud break back around 10 days. Spring sprung and a few more rain falls kept soil moisture levels high and diligent timely spraying of organic fungicides were necessary. Summer came in Hot especially over Christmas and New Year with 3 days over 40c unheard of in Margaret River. The vines were freshened with irrigation and flowering and fruit set was about average. Ripening conditions were perfect allowing grapes to develop lovely flavours and intensity. A great Marri flowering kept the grapes free from birds, however vines were still netted.  Harvesting was done in bright sunshine and dry conditions an absolute magic vintage. Harvest February 22nd.
