Description
Production 275 dozen / 3300 bottles
Colour: Deep ruby red with purple hues.
Nose: Luscious raspberry and black cherry, with white pepper and spice.
Palate: An elegant Margaret River Shiraz made in a medium bodied style. The palate mirrors the bouquet finishing with liquorice and ripe firm tannins. Will develop more complexity over the coming years and cellar up to 8 years. A fantastic food wine.
Harvest: The Shiraz grapes were harvested 9th March.
Vinification: The grapes were picked in the cool of the morning, destemmed and placed in two open fermenters. Innoculated with a neutral yeast and the cap plunged up to four times a day, by hand. After 10 days the wine was kept on extended skins for a further ten days. Then the wine was drained and the must basket pressed off to tank where it underwent a malolactic fermentation which softens the acid. The wine was then racked to a mix of 50% new and 50% one and two year old French barriques, then left to mature for 12 months. Blended and bottled in August 2015.
Technical Data: Alc. 13.5 % pH 3.64 TA 5.6 g/L
2014 Vintage: The 2014 vintage represents the regions 8th successive year of favourable weather conditions across all varietals. There was minimal rain fall in the summer period, less than the average of 4%. The growing season was very typical of an excellent season, in terms of warm, sunny conditions with a mild ocean breeze, resulting in minimal disease pressure. There was ample Marri blossom thus bird damage was kept to a minimum; however we still netted the wines.
2014 Red Vintage Rating 9/10
Ray Jordan’s West Australian Wine Guide 2017 – 91 points
Earthy shiraz from deepen the heart of Margaret River. There’s a loamy gravelly character that merges with the spicy fruit on the nose. On the palate it’s neatly woven together with grainy tannins and lovely oak playing a part. Very nice wine that expresses the savoury characters of the region. Cellar 7 years. 91/100.
James Halliday 2018 Wine Companion
Wonderful dark crimson hue; full-bodied, richly flavoured with black cherries and plums, licorice, earthy with charry oak, (aged in French barriques, 50% new for 12 months) just slightly pinched on the finish with a green, pickled walnut undertone. 91/100 Cellar 2023 Jane Faulkner
